One of my favorite designers is the Hungarian-born Eva Zeisel who created some iconic tea ware and homeware ceramics. Her forms are elegant and sensual, she was a maker of tactile and functional products with an appealing simplicity and whimsy.
Eva Zeisel began her career in Germany and later emigrated to New York where she taught at Pratt Institue and re-established herself as a designer with projects for Castleton, Red Wing Potteries, and most famously for Hall China Company. Some of her later work for Klein Reid and Nambé
I am also a ceramic designer who has lived and worked both in Europe and the USA. Eva's design philosophies inspire me, especially her quote, "My designs are meant to attract the hand as well as the eye." While I've always appreciated the tactile element of design, I really focus on making my objects delightful to touch and give joy in their use.
My Eva tea set is named in homage to Eva Zeisel. I like to imagine that in another life we might have enjoyed a cup of tea and a conversation together.
